In 1986 we were hired to appraise the archives of Gorham, Inc., of Providence, Rhode Island, given to the Brown University Library. For nine months during 1986 and 1987 I supervised a team to organize the archives and prepare a 500-page inventory of its contents.

Since then I have conducted researches in the Gorham Archives for dealers, major auction houses and collectors as well as for casual owners of silver. My experience in the Archives makes it possible for me to locate information and write formal reports for a modest fee.

From these researches I have published a number of articles in Silver magazine. These include Martelé and pseudo-Martelé, July-Aug. 1988; Gorham on Four Wheels [auto hood mounts], Sept.-Oct. 1988; Sterling Doll House Toys, Nov.-Dec. 1988; Gorham Stained Glass, March-April 1989; Bric-a-Brac Specialty Flatware, May-June 1989; The Class of 1870 Gorham Sterling Ice Bowls, Sept.-Oct. 1989; Possible Origin of the Food Pusher, Jan.-Feb. 1990; Gorham Bon Bon Scoop No. 582, March-April 1990; Gorham Liquor Flask [167], March-April 1994 and dozens of others.

In February 1994 I was named an editor of Silver magazine.

I have spoken on various aspects of Gorham to historical and educational organizations. Currently my talks reflect my research on Gorham silver during the 1860s and are entitled "The Establishment of the Gorham Hallmark."

I am preparing two books on Gorham silver: A Guide to Gorham Sterling Flatware of the Nineteenth Century and Gorham Coin Silver Tea Sets 1857-1868.

I have several ongoing projects, including preparation of a roster of Gorham craftsmen.

I gave a lecture entitled "The Legacy of Ornamental Design at Gorham in the 19th Century" in a panel at Brown University, 25 Sept. 1999, for the conference Crafting the Medici: Patrons and Artisans in Florence, 1537-1737.

Exhibition: The Gorham Archives at Brown University, held 15 Sept. - 15 Nov, 2002, has been photographed and is being prepared for online viewing.
