Interview with Florence Thomae Colmetz, Friday 27 Nov. 1992. Charles Thomae was born, of a Protestant family in Marktredwitz, Bavaria; parents came to America with 5 or 6 children, through Ellis Island; settled in New York German-language community. As a boy he had a job lighting lamps in the Bowery. Among his brothers, Christopher worked for Valentine Co. & perfected a finish for airplanes. Mrs. Colmetz said that C. T. had no formal schooling.
 Charles Thomae married _____?
Children: Florence (Colmetz), Pembroke class of 1919; taught in New Hampshire schools; married, moved to Florida, divorced, married Richard Colmetz (q. v.); Marion (Horton); Charles; Herbert; Helen.
 C. T. worked on bronze doors of Newport 'cottage' -- Breakers?
 C. T. met Otto Colmetz in N. Y. and followed him to Providence to work for Gorham. He was a friend of Fred Briggs, Watson's son-in-law; CT travelled to Europe with Briggs in 1913.
When the business couldn't support Charles G. Thomae during the mid-Depression, Fred Straker got him a job teaching jewelry in the vocational school, which he held for five years. A group of die-cutters taught by Charles G. existed in Attleboro for years (from Charles F. Thomae).
